A CHAT WITH AUTHOR PATRICIA ELLIOTT

One of our latest books Her Lover’s Face, by Patricia Elliott, is now available at a pre-order sale price of $2.99 until the release date 23rd February. I was chat chatting with Patricia, asking her a bit about her background and the way she writes: Life at home has been a bit challenging over the last decade. Accidents and illnesses have taken up a fair bit of our time, and they actually stopped me from writing for about ten years. But I’m back in the game and determined to make up for the lost time. Most of my writing is done at...

A NEW BOOK HOT OFF THE PRESS!

A Woman’s Secret by C.L. Koch is now out! This steamy, historical romance, is a coming of age story set in the early part of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.  A Woman’s Secret combines a complex mixture of intrigue, spies, and pirates. I have to say, it is yet another stunning cover by our Art Director Jessica. Let me tell you a little about the story. *** Hannah Bingham is in love with the son of her father’s childhood friend. Within 24 hours of their wedding, she is captured and abused, her husband dead and she is on the run...

COMPUTERS! A JOY OR A CURSE?

Well, like most of us I could live without a computer.  But does it really have to be so bloody difficult?  I have a love-hate relationship with my computer and with technology in general.  For Sci-Fi nerds and Trekkies, there is a scene from “First Contact,” with Warf beating up on the control panels.  I can so relate. I have a tablet form in which I listen to BVS scripts; I am forever shouting at it.  It feels personal sometimes as if the technology is laughing at me. Does anyone else have the same feeling about their technology?  Hitting the...

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT AFFECTION IN PUBLIC?

This comes about after an incident in the bar a couple of nights ago.   I am not a prude, I have been an erotic artist for a lot of years, have written erotic romance for over 12 years, so I am unshockable.  Yet, the other night in a public bar, a couple engaged in a series of deep open-mouthed kisses, in combination with groping each other.  I am not shocked by this, in the right place it is fine, a sex or fetish club, maybe a darkened corner of a nightclub would be fine, but in a brightly light bar? ...

SOMETHING IN THE AIR TONIGHT. THE SMELLS THAT TURN YOU ON.

j

Do you like your lover to smell a certain way?  The perfume industry is worth an estimated $38.8 billion.  Celebrities have their own designer perfumes.  Is it the celebrity image we are buying into when we pick a fragrance?  Or is it just the smell? There are a few points I would like to make.  On the writing side, I think it is important to consider the smells, both good and bad, in your stories.  The addition of smell can deepen the point of view for the reader, as they will draw on their own experiences.  Yes, there are seasonal...

ARE YOU CHAINED TO YOUR COMPUTER?

I have talked about obsessive writing in the past, but do you really feel that you can’t take a break from the PC? Mac? Or a tablet?  I know in the same way, some people just can’t put the phone down.  FOMO, or Fear Of Missing Out, is a recognized condition.  I have seen it in the bar as a phenomenon.  A growing percentage of people seem more interested in messing about with the phone than having a conversation.  It is something I consider very sad; another trend is rather than having a chat about a topic, a debate on...

LOVE IN UNUSUAL PLACES

Where is the strangest place you have ever made out? How did it work out?  And have you ever used that in a plot for a story?  Or have you invented unusual places for your characters to make love, for a plot reason?  Or lift the drama? Or for maybe another plot reason? The same thoughts go out to readers, anything you would like to share, either personally or from a story you have read.  Anything out of the ordinary and what made it good or bad. A reader shared this:   She had been asleep on a long-haul flight and...

HOSPITALS, ARE THEY SEXY?

This subject came up as a part of a conversation between myself and a writer, who happens to be a registered nurse.  Why are hospitals thought of as places as settings for romantic and sexual encounters in fiction?   In a very real way, they are not a sexy place at all; they are practical, caring places.  Much more concerned with keeping you going than getting you off.  Yet there is that air about them.  In the 1980’s I did a few discos for nurses, and I can tell you there is a high level of sexual tension.  So I can...

ARE YOU GOING TO GET WHAT YOU ARE EXPECTING?

I have had a couple of letters on the subject I blogged about a little while ago.  The subject was about our readers, and do they see our characters in the same way as we see them?  And does it matter?  I had a wide variety of views on the subject.  Some writers were so passionate about making the readers see their characters in the same way that they did.  An interesting technique a couple of writers shared, was to use the image of a famous actor to give the reader a kind of shortcut.  Other writers were almost indifferent, letting...
