Father’s Day

Father’s Day

Father’s Day is a funny one for me.  I lost my father fourteen years ago.  I used to mark the day of his passing, his birthday and armistice Sunday (the equivalent to Memorial Day in the US.)  I didn’t feel that Father’s Day had a lot of relevance to me.  That has slowly changed over the years, I spend more and more time thinking about him and what he means to me.  I find myself questioning what he would think about the current situation in lockdown, what he would think about the choices I have made, and the choices I am currently making.

Our fathers and stepfathers and even farther figures can be a profound influence in our lives, and I think this day is a wonderful way of acknowledging that.  I urge you to make the most of this day. If you can see your father today, I would urge you to do it, be it is on skype, phone, tablet, take that time and do it.  It will do you both good.  If that is not possible, take a little quiet time to think about him, I find it very cathartic.

I’d love to hear what plans for the day…  have a lovely time.

  1. I remembered all the good times with my dad today. He was one of those fathers that genuinely enjoyed hanging out with his kids. He had to…there are eight of us! He taught me some wonderful lessons.

    • Thank you Gibby, My relationship with my father was quite complex. Like you, my father taught me a lot, I miss him, I wish I had his support at the moment.
