FATHER’S DAY THOUGHTS FOR YOU

Father’s Day thoughts for you.  These days it is rather bittersweet for me, we mark the day, but it is slightly different when we lose a parent.  I think in a funny way it is more important to mark the day. As much as we don’t mean to I think we can take our parents for granted, they are there, like the weather, and we assume they will always be there with us.  We don’t notice their age; we don’t notice their frailties.  I know this doesn’t sound upbeat on first reading, but read again and you will see that...

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY FROM ALL OF US AT BVS!

What a wonderful time to celebrate our mothers.  A time to think about all they have done for us and meant to us.  Take a moment to consider, the kindness they have shown, the generosity of time.  For me, it is all those little things, that have built up over time that matter.  I remember how it felt as a child, coming home from school.  Taking a piece of paper from my school bag and showing my mum my piece of crinkled artwork.  Seeing the pride in her eyes as she stuck it on the refrigerator door.  Every time I...

MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, HAVE THEY GO ANY PLACE IN ROMANTIC FICTION?

Mental health issues, have they got any place in romantic fiction?  Is your own state of mind one of the last taboos?  I believe a lot of people are affected by mental health issues, stress, and forms of OCD are fairly commonplace, yet we rarely talk about it.  It is probably one of the least romantic topics, yet it is part of the human condition.  In our writing, we use our personal experiences as a framework for our stories.  Is it also not fair to represent stress as well? I have been delighted to have read the work of KA...

EASTER IS A TIME TO GATHER WITH LOVED ONES

For many, Easter is a time to gather with loved ones over a special meal to celebrate the season of spring, hope, and renewal. For others, it is filled with Easter egg hunts, bunnies, baskets full of a chocolate rabbit, eggs, jellybeans and hopefully a book or two. Both slow down the worries in our lives, the workload of the daily routine and bring people together in a joyful day of hope, peace, and love. Here at BVS, we will join our families on Sunday to enjoy some quiet time, good conversation, and delicious food. We will most likely read...

INTERESTING BOOK TERMS.

Interesting book terms have been on my mind.  I came across a few and discovered what I considered the meaning of a term was not universally accepted.  For example; here is a seemingly simple phrase that can mean different things to a group of authors.  When would you consider a book to be launched? Is it the moment you upload your file to Amazon’s KDP?  Or is it when your book is first available for pre-order? Is it on the day of publication? Out there, on sale to a reader? This is my view, I work as a part of...

NEW! THE STORY OF JESS AND AVER: GIVING LOVE A CHANCE AGAIN BY K. A. NEESON

New out from Black Velvet Seductions, The Story of JESS and AVER: Giving Love a Chance by K A Neeson.  I love this story and it is available now. I want to share the opening chapter with you I know you will love it too. Preface How many people break up with their boyfriend, not talk for three months, then wake up one day and marry them right off the bat before they officially get back together again? Yes, that’s right. Married! Hell, I know it sounds crazy, but the conventional way of getting back together to work things out first doesn’t...

MEMORIAL DAY IN THE US TOMORROW.

A lot of friends, relatives, and the writers I have worked with have served in the military. I know it is Memorial Day in the US tomorrow. Not everyone in the service gets to go into a war zone area or receives the recognition they deserve.  The important thing is all service play their part in the organization.  Each and every man and woman that serves from the front-line fighting officers to medics, engineering personnel, or logistics to catering teams add to the success of the whole.  Everyone in the service does a vital role.  I consider myself lucky to...
