We are still looking for reviewers and bloggers if you want to join in the fun, please click the link. I’d love to hear your comments here on the blog,...
THINGS WE DO FOR COMFORT.
A couple of personal things made me think of comfort and the things we do to cheer ourselves up. This works for our writing as well as on a personal level. It is neat to get into the characters and think of their comforts too and what motivates the need for comfort. So, what is it that brings you comfort? For me, it is the little things like chocolate, a nice coffee, and a chill in a comfy chair. But there are other things too, a soak in a nice hot, candlelight, bath, listening to chill music. Or maybe cuddling...
JUDGING A BOOK BY ITS COVER.
One of our latest books is up for an award; it is entered into the All author Cover of the month. At the time of writing this, it is ranked number 4. Please if you get the chance vote for our cover. We all judge things by their appearance, it is a natural thing to do. Books are no exception. We are very fortunate to have Jessica Greeley, as our graphic designer and art director. I am proud to be working with her, I love her work, and I think the arty direction our covers have gone, is cool. The new...
READING SCRIPTS, AND CHILLING WITH A COFFEE
I thought I’d like to share my Sunday with you. It was a bit wild clubbing on Saturday night, so I thought I’d have a lay-in and chill. I had bought myself one of those fancy coffee pod machines as a Christmas present. I love it! So I made a latte and went back to bed with my new iPad and read a new BVS script, it is fresh out of edits, and Ric said I could be the first to read it. It is by a relatively new author Callie Carmen and her book Patrick. I spent the day...
WRITING ABOUT LOVE IN UNUSUAL PLACES.
It is as cold as anything here, so I have been thinking about holidays in the sun. I was wondering, who thinks making love on the beach is a good idea. From the reading and writing point of view, it makes for a good scene. I was kind of thinking about the movie From Here to Eternity and the famous love scene with Burt Lancaster & Deborah Kerr, in the surf. It is the classic metaphor for making love in old movies, waves crashing on the shore. I had been thinking about a beach love scene for a story. I...
MY FIRST BLOG FOR BLACK VELVET SEDUCTIONS.
I am excited to be writing my first blog for BVS. I have been asking Ric if I can do it for a little while now. I think I just wore him down until he gave in, a bit like a kid on the way to the seaside keeps asking, “Are we there yet?” I have been working for BVS for nearly four years now. I help to promote, help read the scripts, and any other odd jobs that need doing. I work with some of the authors too. I have always read a lot of books, so a job...
A CHAT WITH DEE S. KNIGHT AUTHOR OF NAVAL MANEUVERS
A CHAT WITH DEE S. KNIGHT AUTHOR OF NAVAL MANEUVERS MARCH 1, 2018 I love chatting with creative people. I consider myself a very lucky man; most of my life is spent working and chatting with creative people. It never gets old; creative people brighten your day in so many ways. I have spent a bit of time chatting with one of our new authors, Dee S. Knight author of Naval Maneuvers. It is now available at a pre-order sale price of $2.99 until the release date 9th March. I started by asking about her background. I always think I’ve lived a kind of...
BLOGS, THOUGHTS AND A NEW VOICE.
I have been writing the Black Velvet Seductions blog for about six months, and I have been really enjoying it. I intend to keep writing blogs here, but another member of our team here has asked if she could write the blog for a while. I would like to introduce Amanda Ravenscroft. She is an enthusiastic young lady. She has one story published in the First Submissions anthology. I am sure she will have her own thoughts on the direction of the blog, I have every confidence that you will find what she has to share, entertaining. I have just had a...
HOT DATES! IS LOVE BETTER THE SECOND TIME AROUND?
The BVS team has spent the last few months working on our social media profiles, so meeting new people is very much a hot topic going around the office at the moment. I have been reading a script set in the 1960s and it looks at a young lady dating for the first time. In the way that I do, I drew these two topics together. From growing the profile it has been very exhilarating meeting such an influx of new people. There was a feeling of, going to a new school for the first time. There have been a...
YOUR CHARACTERS. HAVE YOU WRITTEN ABOUT AN AGE GAP?
I was reading a script concerning an age difference between the hero and heroine. Just set me thinking about the age gaps generally and whether you have read about age differences in romance stories and how the author handled the subject. Or indeed if you have written about age gaps between characters. If so what was your inspiration to write it? If you were writing it would you bring up the natural things that may come up in real life? One character may be ready for children, and the other is still wanting to go off and travel and not...
