I was reading a script concerning an age difference between the hero and heroine. Just set me thinking about the age gaps generally and whether you have read about age differences in romance stories and how the author handled the subject. Or indeed if you have written about age gaps between characters. If so what was your inspiration to write it? If you were writing it would you bring up the natural things that may come up in real life? One character may be ready for children, and the other is still wanting to go off and travel and not ready to be tied down with kids. Or worries about the reproductive clock? Maybe a midlife crisis? Or a younger person experimenting?
What is the driving force, an old man or woman with lots of cash? A man or woman attracted to a man in a position of power? Or do they both just get on well regardless of age? Maybe your character find salt and pepper hair sexy? Where is the conflict? Could there be a disparity in libido?
In your opinion what is the maximum age gap? Ten years? Twenty? Or is age totally irrelevant?
I’d love to know your ideas on this. If you have any thoughts, views, and stories you might like to share, on the blog, Facebook, or twitter, I would love to hear them.
