WHEN THE CIRCUS COMES TO TOWN.

df

The thing that has taken me away from my desk in the studio is an exhibition.  Primarily it is an art exhibition, but I have included a section for BVS and some of the other books we publish.  The feel of an exhibition is very much the circus coming to town.  We decamp from the studio, load books, art, and display material and move to a new location.  The studio looks like a wreck and will look even worse when what isn’t sold comes back at the end of the show.  I tend not to do that many shows because of the upheaval.  But there is a very positive side that gives me the opportunity to deep clean areas of the studio that don’t normally see the light of day, so there is a cathartic feel to it.

I am curious about how you feel about either taking part in a show or exhibition or attending something like that, either art, writing, craft.  If you show your work, is there any apprehension that you will be judged?  If you are attending the show, is there a tendency to compare what you do to what is on the show?  Or do you just enjoy the exhibits?

From the exhibitor’s point of view, it is nice to get out and about, meet the buyers and have an opportunity to chat about what we do.  It is much more celebration and collaboration than competition.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, experience, stories, or any views you might like to share.  Here, the blogFacebook or Twitter.
