In olden days, a glimpse of stocking was looked on as something shocking. But now, God knows,
Anything goes.
From a ladies perspective, I have been told that stockings with garter belts are uncomfortable and a bit of a chore, hold-ups are not much better. Yet knowing the disadvantages female Authors still write about them. Historically tights were seen as racier, as it was a part of a performers apparel. The mini skirt in the ’60s prompted the advent of tights for practical reasons, though I mourn the departure of stockings from the everyday clothing. I wrote something the other day that sparked this thought. Maybe it is just me? and do I sound like a total pervert here? As a writer and artist, the subject of stockings comes up from time to time and it prompts the question. What is it about stockings that makes them so sexy? From the male perspective, there is something sensual and rather naughty about them. You might think that bare legs would be as naughty but I have never found it so. Even covered by outer clothing the thought of tights/pantyhose is so unsexy, where the idea of stockings is way more appealing. So even if you can’t see them, what is it about the thought of stockings that are so different.
Artistically, I am a big fan of Jack Vettriano, I love the look and clothing of the 1920s, 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. there is something highly romantic about it and captures something that I put into some of my own artwork.
So back to the question what is the attraction of stockings? What do women really think about wearing them? And what is it for men? Is it the fact that they are from a more romantic time? Or maybe the naughtiness comes down to the simple thought of the giggle zone… the gap between stocking top and panties. The giggle zone got the name by the saying once you were past the stocking top you were laughing.
