Why is it that we hate certain words, either spoken or written down. We all have an aversion to certain words, mostly profanities I am guessing, but is there ever a time to use them? Is there a space in literature for profanities? What word makes you cringe when you are reading? What about in the heat of passion? Or has bad language become so commonplace that people really don’t take any notice anymore?
In romance novels, we try not to influence or writers, most, being ladies use bad language sparingly though if it is in context it would be silly to dum it down. For example, in the throws of passion you would not say “Gosh, that was jolly nice. I wonder if you would mind me putting my gentleman’s part in your lady area” though having written that down it would make for a rather funny sexual encounter in a romance book. My point is when is too much, too much?
Other than the usual profanities are there other words that put your teeth on edge? What are the words get really your goat??
