NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS.

I am sure most of you have either taken or have considered a New Year’s Resolution.  I have undertaken a diet and do more exercise.  But I have also undertaken some new business strategies and personal development strategies.  I won’t go too deeply into it as I really don’t want to bore you with some of my thoughts on starting two Journals, one on Affirmations and another Journal for gratitude.  Do feel free to message me if you do want details.  The area you might be interested in is my writing.  I spend so much time with BVS that I...

OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW!

As the start of a new year approaches, it is time for new ideas.  Are you intending to make a new year’s resolution?  If so what are you going to do?   I have big plans for BVS this year, and I am wanting to make some life-changing decisions, devoting, even more, time to the company.  For me, it is exciting times.  Are you planning changes this year?  Maybe the start of a new book?  Don’t you find the holidays a great time to think of new story ideas? WHY IS BEING NAUGHTY JUST SO NICE?

This thought started when I was thinking about Christmas.  The song “Santa Claus is coming to town.”  It sparked off a line of thinking isn’t it nice to be a bit naughty.  I am not talking about an act of vandalism or something that the police might be interested in.  But something just a bit naughty, that isn’t hurting anyone. I believe that the feeling of being naughty is a massive drive for most people, I know it is for me.  All my life it is the desire to do naughty things that make me explore new areas.  It was...

DO YOU EVER TIRE OF LOOKING AT MEN’S ABS?

A serious question.  I am thinking of book covers, but I guess the question works in general too.  For book covers, we do use a lot of images with men’s abs; there is no way of getting around it.  Male abdominal muscles do seem popular.  But what is it that makes them HOT!  Is it that so few men in real life have them? So it is an idealized body shape?   I know when we do covers with female abs we run into problems promoting them on Facebook.  And that begs a question why is it ok to show a...

WARM AND CONTENTED. HOW WAS YOUR CHRISTMAS?

Christmas has come and gone for another year; I feel relaxed and content.  My festive season was reasonably quiet..  I have been reading BVS scripts, as a part of my usual routine and I did pop on Facebook for an hour first thing in the morning.  As for the rest of Christmas, I didn’t overindulge in food or drink, just enough.  Sat quietly and watched Game of Thrones season 7, way too addictive, then off for an early night.  A little reflection, as a child you see going to bed early as some sort of punishment, now I consider it...

CHRISTMAS FOOD. A FOLLOW-UP…

I am reading a script at the moment  “Not suitable for work” I really like the story and I am seriously considering offering the author a contract when I finish reading the script.  It is something of a coincidence that I was drawn to passages about food and drink I mentioned in a previous blog.  The depth it added was really captivating. On another note, I asked the question about Vegetarians and vegans and got a reply from a friend who has been a vegan for about a year.  She wrote, “I went Christmas food shopping this evening. I hadn’t given...

AMERICAN AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE DIFFERENCES

For readers and writers, in the words of George Bernard Shaw, we are “Divided by a common language.”  Black Velvet Seductions, was founded as an American company.  We have writers all over the world, but the biggest romance market is in the States, so when I took over it made sense to keep American spelling. First off, I would like to ask the question, has anyone fallen foul of using American or UK English?  And any interesting or funny stories coming from that? As an author, I had left it up to proofreaders to sort out my spelling problems, so...

SPECIAL CHRISTMAS FOOD

I talked yesterday about special foods and drink that makes you think of Christmas?  And whether you had ever used this idea in a story?  Maybe as a way of using your own experiences or feelings to influence the characters?  I would love to hear what you did and how it worked out and any examples you might have. On this subject, are there foods that make you think of this festive time, or food that you would only have during the Christmas season?  Or maybe you have a quirky family ritual?  My side of the family avoids turkey, I...
