I am reading a script at the moment “Not suitable for work” I really like the story and I am seriously considering offering the author a contract when I finish reading the script. It is something of a coincidence that I was drawn to passages about food and drink I mentioned in a previous blog. The depth it added was really captivating.
On another note, I asked the question about Vegetarians and vegans and got a reply from a friend who has been a vegan for about a year. She wrote, “I went Christmas food shopping this evening. I hadn’t given it a massive amount of thought, I’d written a list but as I’m not cooking this year, it was really just the usual stuff and some added extras. As this is my first Christmas as a vegan, what I hadn’t expected was how I felt as I was going around the supermarket. I felt quite sad and bereft. Last Christmas I’d had a few nice cheeses and crackers, a nice dessert or two and cream, and the usuals; mince pies, sausage rolls and a snowball or two. It was nothing special but it was Christmas. I like being a Vegan it is a life I am happy with and I don’t want to go back to the diet I had before. But going around the supermarket made me feel, excluded. Don’t get me wrong; I love being vegan. I don’t even want the things I used to have at Christmas. I have plenty of good food that I can have and want to eat over the festivities, but still, I feel like I’m the only one not invited to the party.”
I get the thing about Christmas. It must feel alienating, a penguin knocking on the door of a polar bear’s only nightclub.
In the meantime, forgive the shameless plug. As Christmas approaches, I thought I’d mention our stocking fillers.
