SPECIAL CHRISTMAS FOOD

I talked yesterday about special foods and drink that makes you think of Christmas?  And whether you had ever used this idea in a story?  Maybe as a way of using your own experiences or feelings to influence the characters?  I would love to hear what you did and how it worked out and any examples you might have.

On this subject, are there foods that make you think of this festive time, or food that you would only have during the Christmas season?  Or maybe you have a quirky family ritual?  My side of the family avoids turkey, I have never really liked turkey, except bizarrely in a sandwich.  I know odd eh?

A friend of mine told me of a family favorite Baccalà and another Italian dish Fra Diavolo, with calamari.  She told of a family gathering where the older generation would eat these dishes and the younger generation looked on at the Italian relatives that would sit around eating and chatting with lots of hand gestures.

Another friend described being a very quiet Christmas, simple food.  Very much family time.  Simple games and a time to chill.

Angel Wing Cookies which are fun to make, and not to forget to add plenty of confectionary sugar, well it is Christmas.  We can start the diet as usual in the new year.

What about Vegetarians and Vegans?  What is on your menu for Christmas?

I would be very interested to hear seasonal alternative for nonmeat eaters.

In the meantime, forgive the shameless plug again.  As we are in the run-up to Christmas, I thought I’d mention our stocking fillers.  The offers are for Starla Kaye Christmas Love A 2 for 1 deal, a collection of short Christmas stories, Cowboys in Charge and Holly’s Big Bad Santa.  The other offer is Buy 2 Get 1 Free from author Leslie McKelvey,  Accidental Encounters Trilogy This is the first time all three volumes have been sold together and is available from now until Christmas.

I would love to hear your views, thoughts, and stories you might like to share, on the blogFacebook or Twitter.
