I had some lovely comments on the subject of where you like to write, thank you for that, It is always great to get feedback. I do love my office most of my writing is done there, but I do like getting out too. We had a big patio laid last year and the plan had been to sit out there and write. I have no idea why I didn’t but I have made a mental note to do it next summer. I was writing in a coffee shop yesterday. I don’t mind the noise, with the exception of screaming kids, the usual noise of coffee making and the like is ok and I love the smell of coffee and baking while writing. There is something about the warmth and public nature I find compelling to write.
On the quick sideline. Do you remember when it was easy to order a coffee? Only two choices, black or white, sugar or not. Over the last few years, I have had to learn a whole new vocabulary for coffee.
Ok back to writing in the café, I was writing some notes on a sex scene from a story submission. It was a bit graphic so I made sure I was kind of tucked away in a corner. The only people in that other corner were a couple of ladies who seemed to be busy chatting, so I got on with my writing. I had gotten to a natural break in the script and got another coffee. As you know it takes an age to get served a coffee these days, but it is well worth the wait. When I got back to my laptop the ladies seemed to be chatting more furtively. When I got back to work it was clear they had been reading the sex scene and also clear they had strong views. I could not help listening and their insights were very interesting. These two ladies most certainly wanted the sex scene to be more believable. I introduced myself to the ladies and apologized for interrupting them. It was really interesting hearing their views.
If you have had the chance to chat to readers, say, at a book signing, or convention I would love to hear your experiences, thoughts, stories, or any views you might like to share. Here, the blog, Facebook or Twitter.
