DO YOU EVER TIRE OF TALL DARK AND HANDSOME?

What is your favorite character type to read?  Is it a strong female lead, a girl that can make it on her own, doesn’t need anyone she’s doing just fine without any help.  A woman who wants a partner on her terms?  Or do you like a female lead that seems a bit more vulnerable who needs the hero to sweep in and take control.  I like the female characters of Leslie McKelvey, she wrote good, strong characters.  I am just interested in your general views as I am sure your thoughts will differ between the book genre.

In old romance novels, there was much less choice, men were men and the heroin was pleased about it.  I am so pleased that these days there is so much richer variety than that, a female character is as likely to initiate sex as knee the man in the balls for an unwelcome advance.  And for our hero, how do you like your leading men? A bad boy to be tamed? Maybe a bad boy not to be tamed?  A dark mysterious dominant who won’t take no for an answer? Do you like the hard military type who will save the day?  Maybe a vulnerable man waiting to be rescued by the girl?  Is it me or does there seem to be an awful lot of billionaires types in stories these days?  Do you ever tire of tall dark and handsome?

From my perspective as publisher, writer, and reader, I like well crafted, rounded, developed characters.  Even baddies have redeeming features.  One of my favorite characters is the Thomas Harris character, Hannibal Lecter.  A true villain and yet there are redeeming features, he is not all bad and there is a great back story that shows how he became the way he is.

As always I would love to hear your thoughts and comments on the blogFacebook, or twitter
