Veterans Day
Veterans Day in the US, in the UK we call it Remembrance Day or Armistice Day. It is a good time to reflect on our families, there aren’t many that haven’t been affected by war. A few of my family have been in military service, and I am very proud of them. I remember sitting with my father, watching the Armistice Day ceremony on the TV. He served in the Royal Marines, and I know watching the ceremony meant a lot to him. At the time I sat there to humor him. It is the same every year and to be honest I found watching a bit boring.
It changed after he died. The service of Remembrance means a lot to me, I always make time now to listen on the radio, by myself. It is a time I think of my dad, time I think of those in the services, a time when I think of absent friends.
I wasn’t going to mention any books in this section of the blog, as I think it cheapens the sincere message of the blog. I hope you’d agree that there is an appropriate exception, I would like to mention one of our authors we lost a couple of years ago. Leslie McKelvey, she served in the US Navy. I counted her as a friend and a very talented writer. You can find her stories on the web page. But this mention of her is all about missing my friend and a very lovely lady. I would also put a call out to BVS authors, and any other authors who have served their country. I hope they will name-check themselves on the blog or wherever they see this post.
