CAN AN IMAGE INSPIRE YOUR WORDS?

I am addicted to www.pinterest.com. Whenever I am short of ideas a quick trawl of Pinterest and I come up with all kinds of ideas.  Maybe too many sometimes.  The problem with a creative mind, as I have said in the past, is that you have more ideas than you can bring to life.  But looking at images can gel things like character details in your mind.  If you are waning a hero in your story to look a certain way, looking online you can find your ideal character. I find it a lot easier to describe what I can see. Also, you get a feel for your character by the way they look.  I think it is a good shorthand way of getting the personality and looks of your hero and heroine.

I was at a writer’s workshop a little while ago. They gave us a picture and we were asked to create a short plot about the image.  looking around the room, it seemed that all the photographs were a little bizarre. I put the picture I was given as the cover for this blog post. The photo made me think of the heartwood trees in Game of Thrones and then the Ents from the Lord of the Rings.  My mind took me to an old movie clip from the John Boorman film, Excaliber with the character Merlin talking about spirits of trees and streams.  So look at a pic randomly and see where it takes your mind.
