A friend of mine was going on a first date with what she hopes will be her new boyfriend. I was around at her place helping her to pick out clothes for the date. While we were looking through her closet, it was clear my ideas, and hers were very different. It is hot here, so I had thought of a summer dress, she was thinking of jeans and a top. If it had been me, I would have chosen a dress, but maybe I am old fashioned? He seemed like a nice guy, and I would have dressed up. Thinking about it, maybe it depends on where you are going on the date. If it is a concert on the grass, then jeans or shorts work best. Whereas, if it is dinner or a show, dress up would work better?
What about you? Do you enjoy dressing up for dates or are you more comfortable in jeans? Does this carry over into your writing? Do your characters tend to dress the way you do or maybe the complete opposite?
Do you go so far as getting a new outfit having a manicure or a pedicure maybe even a waxing? Is that special date worth stockings and high heels? Either for you or your book characters? Or do you or your characters settle for jeans, a nice top maybe even a t-shirt, loafers or sneakers?
I would love to know what you think. If you have anything you would like to add or share, I’d love to hear your comments here on the blog, the BVS Facebook page, or my Facebook page. We have a twitter page too, and we are always happy to follow people that follow us.
