Flirting can be a lot of fun. It is the elements of tease and denial. I guess that is the most alluring aspect when flirting. How far dare you go? What if you flirt too much and go over the edge? To begin with, flirting feels as it does at the start of a game of table tennis. You slowly tap the ball back and forth, a question here, a cheeky answer in return. The questions and answers slowly becoming more risque as the soft tennis match turns a little more vigorous, the questions a little more probing the replies a little more revealing. The mood changing to that of surfing, riding the crest of a wave, right where the action is most dangerous and the conversation that bit more rewarding. But how close to the edge do you dare go? There is the risk of rejection, always the possibilities of humiliation and yet that feeling of danger are so addictive.
When I said I was going to do a blog on flirting, the boss, Ric mentioned a few of the cheezy chat ups he had heard over the years.
You must be tired because you have been running through my mind all night.
Is that a ladder in your stocking? Or is it the stairway to heaven? With the reply, It is the stairway to heaven, but there is an arse hole already up there.
What are your thoughts on flirting? Do you use the tension in your writing? Do you use your experience of flirting to build up that suspense in your character interactions?
