Before I tell you about last night’s party, and how it all went horribly wrong, I want to add something to yesterday’s blog. I mentioned some of our more recent stories and the great authors who have written them. What I failed to say and I would like to add, is a tribute to all the authors that have been published by Black Velvet Seductions over the years. On behalf of the team, I would like to thank them all. You can check out our website for the authors and their books.
Confession time, I consider myself quite a good cook and this is a bit embarrassing. Last night I invited four friends for dinner. I had been busy all week, so I decided I needed to take some shortcuts in the cooking. I was making, beef and mushroom casserole, with a shortcrust pastry lid. I decided to use five frozen portions of the casserole I made a few weeks ago. I had eaten some the night I cooked it originally, and the meat was nice and tender, so thought it was not going to be a problem using it for this dinner. I made some pastry lids that morning so they were ok, I was just going to heat them through in the oven. I had partly cooked the vegetables in advance, so all I needed to do was microwave it all and serve. I had done this kind of food before for friends, and it had always gone well. What could go wrong? Well as it happened so much. The gravy separated in the pie, so it was all watery. Everyone was waiting to eat so there I am in the kitchen panicking. I put more gravy granules into the beef casserole, trying to thicken it up, but it wasn’t that great. While fixing that the pastry lids were in the oven for a bit too long and were a bit burnt. All in all, it was a mess. I even thought about Chinese takeaway. I took the diner through to my friends, and they dutifully ate it. You know when it has not gone well. As I was drinking lots of wine, I thought back to the disastrous dinner in the first Bridget Jones movie and the cooking scenes in the movie Notting Hill. The way I feel about my dinner right now is right up there with those.
I wondered if you have ever had that experience? What have you done about it? Any tips for those who have messed up a dinner? Have you ever included a disastrous dinner in one of your stories? Or read about one, that you would like to share?
If you have anything you would like to add or share, I’d love to hear your comments here on the blog, the BVS Facebook page, or my Facebook page. We have a twitter page too, and we are always happy to follow people that follow us.
