Have you ever used song lyrics in one of your stories? This was a hot topic in the office this week. I love song lyrics because of the poetry of them and was going to reference them in a story I am writing. Then I was told that you need permission to use them. I don’t know why that came as a surprise, but it did. Is it just me or have other authors been surprised by this rule? Perhaps you’ve seen an Indie author use song lyrics because they didn’t know about the permission and fees involved.
I was wondering if you had experienced this? If so, was it a big hassle to get the rights to use it? Was it expensive? Or after you found out that it wasn’t allowed without permission did you just do a rewrite and take it out of your story.
I did check this blog post out and thought I’d share:

ARE PAPERBACKS A THING OF THE PAST?
With Kindles and tablets, why bother to have a paperback? One simple reason. I love them.
I will never forget the feeling of holding a book with my name on it. Something so tangible, the feel, smell, of a real book. It is one of the reasons BVS still produces physical books. In the office at Ric’s studio, there is a wall dedicated to the BVS books. I work mostly from home, but the next time I am in the studio I will take a picture and let you have a look.
