WHY ARE COWBOYS SUCH A HOT ROMANCE GENRE?

Black Velvet Seductions have published a great many western romance novels, and I was wondering just why are they so popular.  I love them, and the appeal for me is that rugged frontier feel. A time when men were the strong and brooding types, an altogether rougher period in history, seeing men, as both the villains and the protectors. Especially in this pressured world of technology and deadlines, I think there is a part of us that craves a simpler life. I was watching the HBO series Westworld, and I think that feeds into that desire to go back to...

WHAT WOULD YOU PIC FOR A VACATION READ?

I am having a chilled Sunday.  In a vacation mood and was thinking what books I’d recommend for a holiday read. If I was on the beach, I might go for a soft romance something historical, like A Bride for a King by L.J. Dare. Click here to read Chapter one. I wouldn’t want to get too hot and bothered on the beach. If I was with a partner in a nice hotel room, I might go for something a bit more steamy a hot military read like Naval Maneuvers by Dee S. Knight. Click here to read Chapter one What would you pick for a holiday read and...

A HOT NIGHT IN THE UK! HOT SUMMER BOOKS!

It has been hot in the UK; I can’t remember a summer being so hot and lasting for so long.  It has been quite uncomfortable if you are working without air conditioning.  This is kind of explaining why I did what I did last night.  I was down at a local bar, sweltering hot, and one of my friends said there was going to be a thunderstorm.  I said “If there is a downpour I am going out and stand in it”  I little while later there was a clap of thunder and all the pub electrics went out. Then...

DEEPER POINT OF VIEW FOR YOUR CHARACTERS.

Adding a deeper point of view for your characters is always a goal for fiction writers. Emotions and reactions are all important. Alfred Hitchcock, a master of suspense, would let the audience see the jeopardy of the character, even before the character was aware. Riddly Scott used the same technique in the film “Alien” it was only toward the end the creature was fully revealed.  The stress the characters were under was depicted so well, and I think we can use aspects of that in our writing when dealing with stress in our stories. Even the most laid-back of us...
