A HOT NIGHT IN THE UK! HOT SUMMER BOOKS!

It has been hot in the UK; I can’t remember a summer being so hot and lasting for so long.  It has been quite uncomfortable if you are working without air conditioning.  This is kind of explaining why I did what I did last night.  I was down at a local bar, sweltering hot, and one of my friends said there was going to be a thunderstorm.  I said “If there is a downpour I am going out and stand in it”  I little while later there was a clap of thunder and all the pub electrics went out. Then...

DEEPER POINT OF VIEW FOR YOUR CHARACTERS.

Adding a deeper point of view for your characters is always a goal for fiction writers. Emotions and reactions are all important. Alfred Hitchcock, a master of suspense, would let the audience see the jeopardy of the character, even before the character was aware. Riddly Scott used the same technique in the film “Alien” it was only toward the end the creature was fully revealed.  The stress the characters were under was depicted so well, and I think we can use aspects of that in our writing when dealing with stress in our stories. Even the most laid-back of us...

A GREAT PLACE FOR A DATE NIGHT.

s

I took yesterday as a day off; so I took the opportunity to go out with a friend. It was interesting because the day out, kind of turned into a date, or at least I think it might have been a date. To be honest, I am still not sure.  Has that ever happened to you? Have you ever been out with a friend and not been sure if it was a date or not?  It was sweet, and nothing happened, but it felt more than just two friends doing stuff.  The venue was nice it was a coffee shop...

BOOK COVERS. IS A PICTURE WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS?

Books and covers is a subject I have talked about a few times, but book jackets are just so important to our business. I should at this point mention our wonderful cover designer Jessica Greeley.  She has done such a great job with our designs and recovering some of our back catalogs, as they go onto Kindle Unlimited. The latest book being Karlene Cameron’s story Dark Awakening. You can find more of our back catalog there too.  I was chatting with an author this morning about her likes and dislikes of some romance covers.  A funny part of the conversation...

SONG LYRICS THAT INSPIRE US TO WRITE.

Song lyrics in stories is a topic I have hit on before in a blog; the emphasis was more on the song lyrics in the story. I was going through my dad’s old vinyl record collection and came across “Paperback Writer” from The Beatles. I always loved this song; it brings back memories of long summers listening to records with my dad. I still have his old record player, so I played the record again.  The lyrics struck me as poignant because it touches on much of my daily BVS work of reading submissions. Dear Sir or Madam, will you...
