Welcome to the Books You Can Win page of the Black Velvet Seductions Blog. This page is the page where new books you can win are added to those that are already up for grabs for lucky winners who win picks from my bookshelf by posting their questions, comments, insights and suggestions on the various posts on the blog. One comment anywhere on the blog gets you one chance to win. But since winners are picked by “landing on a cell” in my spreadsheet you have to keep posting comments to keep being entered. However, the same spreadsheet is used for picking other prizes that are given away on the blog from time to time.

I love hearing what books you’re eager to win. If there’s a type of book you’d be interested in seeing more of please let me know that too in the comments section on this page or on one of the posts for a new book up for grabs.

Cross your fingers! Good luck! Hope you win a book you’ll enjoy reading.

DANG LAURIE! LOTS OF GOOD TITLES HERE TOO. I SENT MY MESSAGE TO CLAIM ONE FROM YOUR SHELF AND I HOPE YOU GOT IT!

  • Christina OW says:

    Hi.

I’m an avid reader. I’d love to win some of the books above, except the short stories- they are cool too but i much prefer books that are above 50, 000 words.
if there are any available (in PDF) please pass them my way ;)

  • CassandraG says:

Like reading a lot. Wether it’s on my KOBO or hardback or paperback or using the kindle app. Working on getting one.
    Wouldn’t mind winning,
The Eternal Highlander by Hannah Howell and Lynsay Sands or
The Ghost of Carnal Cove by Evelyn Rogers
That is, if the contest is still open. Nice site by the way.

  • Donna H. says:

I see you have added a few new books containing several shorter stories… I love these for when I’m reading to the seniors… I can finish one section in a two-day weekend session (before they’ve forgotten what was in the first part I read to them). : )

    • Laurie Sanders says:

I know. I specifically keep my eye out where I buy books for anthologies. I know you and several other readers enjoy anthologies. I like them myself. They present a good opportunity to try an author in a short format.

  • redlou says:

Love to read. Have a kindle best thing I ever got. I read everything I can get my hands on.Love it all. My daughter told me about your site. Going to thank her.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

EXCELLENT! All of our books are available on Kindle…most of the guest authors we have here have books that are available in Kindle format.

I agree with you. I love my Kindle too. Love reading on the Android phone using the Kindle app as well. It means I always have my book with me…even where I might not take the Kindle or when I might not expect to have time to read.

The Android also has the Audible app so I have my audio books along as well.

      Gotta love technology!

  • di says:

Single mom limited budget for books. Love to read romance. Would love to win a book. Your strategy is a very good one:) Love the blog

    • Laurie Sanders says:

      Hi Di,

Glad you enjoy the blog. Readers win quite a few books around here. Generally the way it works is one comment equals an entry into our drawing(s). Entries stay in the pot until they win something…so keep checking back. Comment often…the more comments the more entries. ;)

  • Alana Woods says:

    Hi Laurie

I’m a sucker for a good book too and would love to win one. And as I know authors really appreciate reviews I’ll always do one if I can award a 3 or higher rating. I prefer not to put negative comments out there and just because I don’t like a book doesn’t mean that others will feel the same way.

I like the layout of the blog by the way. I visit some that take literally minutes to load and I’ll often just click out of them.

I’ve just registered and signed up for your newsletters to. Look forward to receiving them.

    Regards
    Alana Woods

    • Laurie Sanders says:

I’m with you Mary. I have shelves and a Kindle and an audio library full of books. I still find more I want and buy more. :-) I’m not sure there is such a thing as too many books.

  • Love the list of books. Who doesn’t love a chance to win a free book. It’s a way to find new authors or even read a book from a favorite author. Thank you for the great giveaways! Happy Holidays.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

Keep your eyes out. I think I have more Beatrice Small books on my shelves to work their way onto the Books You Can Win List.

  • Christine A. says:

Wow- that is a nice list of books. I love to read and when I get a free book in the mail it makes the book even better some how. I enjoy reading new authors too. Thanks for having a great website.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

Thanks Christine. It’s my pleasure to offer up the books and other goodies here. I think the chance to win something is something most of us enjoy. It isn’t really a matter of NEEDING the prize. It’s more that the SURPRISE of getting something we weren’t expecting is nice. I wish you luck. Hope you win something fun here soon. :)

  • Carol L says:

I agree with Mara. I think it’s such a wonderful way to meet Authors and find their books. I also love the layout of the blog and think it’s such a blessing that it’s also so easy to navigate. And I thank you for that as well as the chance to win Free books. :)

    • Laurie Sanders says:

Thank you Carol. :-) I’ve tweaked on the layout for a while. It does take some fine-tuning to get everything into a logical place. I’m glad you like the layout and navigation. Hope you win something fun soon. :)

  • I’ve just been introduced to Cara Bristol’s book – Unexpected Consequences which led me to this website. I loved her book. I hope to find more in a similar vein. I hope to be entered in free book contest too. I see many of the books you have up for grabs are ones that I read and enjoy!

    • Laurie Sanders says:

Cara Bristol also wrote two of the stories in the Spanked! anthology…which you can see linked in the sidebar to the right. Clicking on the image will take you to the page on our website where you can read more about it. Spanked! like all of our titles are for sale through All Romance Ebooks, Fictionwise, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc.

If you like domestic discipline stories you might also like Starla Kaye’s book Her Cowboy’s Way. If you like a bit of BDSM with your domestic discipline you might enjoy Alyssa Aaron’s His Perfect Submissive.
      *
Whether you buy any of our books or not, this is a good place to hang out and learn about books in a vein similar to Cara Bristol’s books. We have the Million Pages Challenge. Most days that we do not have a guest author I post lists of books that people have read for the challenge — along with their opinions of them. You might be particularly interested in the books that Gabrielle is reading.
      *
Some of my favorite erotic authors outside BVS are Cherise Sinclair and Sarah McCarty. I also like Joley Sue Burkhart.
      *
Hang out here, I’m sure we’ll put you onto some good books. Both those we publish and those published by other publishers. :)

    • Laurie Sanders says:

That’s sort of the idea of the Books You Can Win list. I am not familiar with all of the authors on the list…haven’t read all the books on the list but it is nice to read comments from other people who have either read the book or who want to. I think it’s a fun way to encourage reading and to find new authors.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

Have my fingers crossed you’ll win something soon. I just announced new winners and announced some new contests as well as new prizes that will be up for grabs.

  • Jenn Cunha says:

Who am I to say no to a free book? I’ve won a couple of books over the years, and each one has made me a fan of the author (usually someone I’ve never read before). What a great incentive to poke around the website and see what other kind of fun stuff is here!

    • Laurie Sanders says:

There is a lot of stuff here on the blog…hope you have fun poking. :-) I have my fingers crossed you’ll win a cool prize soon.

  • antiana robinson says:

hi im nineteen my name is antiana im trying to open a bookstore and im trying to get some free books so donations are appreciated..

  • Linda says:

I’m definitely a sucker for a free book & yes I’ve discovered authors that I now have on my auto buy list from books I’ve won. I love historical romance & fantasy romance & now starting to dabble in PNR. I’d love any book in those 3 genres.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

I try to include books from a variety of genres. Some genres are easier to find in paper than others. But I do keep my eye out for books wherever I go and I add to the shelves. I post quite a bit of historical romance and quite a bit of paranormal. Fantasy is a little harder to find in paper, but I’ll see what i can do. :)

  • Mara says:

    Hello.
I just noticed I haven’t been back to this blog since June. Where has the time gone? Is there an newsletter for readers that I can sign up for?
I signed up for the writers’ newsletter (I hope one day to return to writing!)
    Pleae let me know.
    Thanks!
    Mara

    • Laurie Sanders says:

      Hi Mara,

Yes, there is a reader’s newsletter you can sign up for. The button for signing up is toward the top in the right sidebar. :)

The newsletter goes out pretty infrequently. Unfortunately. That remains one of the things I need to do better with…

  • Kathryn Merkel says:

There is no better way to be introduced to a new author than through a free book. I’ve expanded my book collection more that way than any other. I have really grown to the love the free reads so many ebook publishers offer and almost always end up buying at least one other book by the author. I also am a serious series reader, so if an author can tease me into a series with a FREE read, it usually gets me to buy the entire series. I’m pretty sure a few authors have breathed new life into an old series by writting a FREE prequal.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if a few authors hadn’t breathed new life into an old series by writing a free sequel…or perhaps veering off into a different branch of the family tree with a freebie. Ebooks make it easy to offer freebies because there isn’t the cost of producing the individual book — or shipping it with ebooks. We give away quite a few ebooks that we publish as well as the paper books listed here. We try to have something for everyone. :)

  • nmomin says:

I love reading good romance books. plus i love winning books. so thnks for the giveaways and i’m keeping my fingers crossed. :)

    • Laurie Sanders says:

Hope you win something soon. Remember, for some of the contests, you have to keep posting comments to keep being entered.

  • GladysMP says:

Just looked over the list of books that can be won and am crossing both my fingers and toes. I have finally got my unread books down to just a couple, so before long I will be eager for books to read. I do not have an e-reader; but maybe some day.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

Unread books down to just a couple? Oh boy, that’s good…or BAD depending. All the books given away on this list (the list above this row of comments) are paper books. We also give away ebooks and have guest authors who sometimes give away ebooks or paper books. Those aren’t listed here. These are just the ones I’ve found and added to the giveaway shelf.

  • stephanie bondlow says:

I like this blog so much! It has a personable welcoming vibe that draws one in. I love romance novels because I need to escape after my hellish days and all the kiddos are in bed, the man is at work, and I can just breathe, relax, and enjoy a wonderful read. I find my books to be very precious, and would be so excited if lady luck came my way. Thank you for this opportunity.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

Thank you Stephanie. I’m glad you like the vibe here. :-) It is a friendly place. I know what you mean, even though I spend my days reading manuscripts and editing the ones I’ve accepted it still feels like a luxury to be able to sit down and pleasure read in the evening when things have calmed down.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

Ad marketing is kind of an icky way to promote. I suppose we might do it from time to time…but in truth we’ve found it to be not very effective. I much prefer to have contests, prizes, guest authors, and fun stuff to draw people in…so that they want to be here rather than run ads. Ugh. Ads are a bit like spam. We all see way too many of them and they are just kind of icky after a while.

  • Connie Fischer says:

To me, books are like a treasure with a whole world inside them; a new story to read; and something more to learn. Bookstores are like candy stores to me. Love to go inside and browse around checking out the new books and learning about new authors. Winning a book is so exciting! I feel as though an author has generously shared a part of themselves with me and I am so grateful as I sit down to read it. Thank you so much for the lovely giveaways you share. Your readers are very appreciative.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

Thanks Connie. :-) I’m glad you enjoy the giveaways. Books are similar to me…a treasure with a new story inside. When I go into bookstores I’m awed to realize that each book began as someone’s germ of an idea that was nurtured and coaxed into a full fledged book. It’s magical in a way. :)

  • Heather says:

It seems like you can read a blurb or excerpt on a book and think ‘it sounds ok.’ Then you win a copy and it’s the best book you have ever read and you don’t want to put it down lol. Happens to me all the time.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

Happens to me too sometimes…though I am pretty picky about which books go on my TBR shelf. I have a limited amount of shelf space for books I am going to read. There is more space for those I am giving away…and a pretty much unlimited amount of Kindle space.

  • Joan OToole says:

I have always enjoyed winning books. It enables me to read books from a new author I haven’t read before. I usually end up reading (and purchasing) other books from the author’s list.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

Makes sense to me too Joan. Here on the blog almost all of our contests which have book prizes allow the winner to choose a book title. There are some books that for whatever reason don’t appeal to a given reader. Rather than give a reader a book that will end up near the bottom of their TBR shelf I like to give them the chance to pick something that really appeals.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

That’s good Patti P. Authors and publishers love readers who get addicted to their books. :)

I’m pleased to keep introducing new authors into the mix here on the blog…our own BVS authors and other authors who write for other publishers.

  • Mara says:

I lovde getting free books. I have found fantastic authors I never would have come across otherwise. So, as far as a marketing strategy – free books are brilliant because, at least for me, I always end up buying at least one book.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

I’m glad you like the concept of offering free books as a marketing strategy.

The bulk of our marketing budget has gone into contests and prizes which have consisted of free books, ebooks, two or three Kindle readers, Amazon gift cards, bookmarks, calendars, etc.

I feel that I can either spend marketing budget on things that make the blog a fun place to be so that people want to come here or I can spend the marketing budget on ads to beg people to come here…which will do no good anyway if they don’t find something they like when they do come here. :)

That’s been the strategy for quite a while. I’m pleased you like it. :)
