Today we have Mysti Holiday joining us on a single day blog tour – meaning she’s making a bunch of stops at a bunch of blogs all on ONE day!  She’s out and about today, making the rounds to talk about her latest release Sugar Walls. Sugar Walls is a story about best friends who after years of friendship find themselves attracted on a sexual level. I don’t know about you, but I’m a fan of best friends to lovers stories. Do you like friends to lovers stories? What do you like most (or least) about this type of romance novel? Leave your comments after the blog post to enter Mysti’s giveaway.

Mysti will be giving away a $10 Amazon gift card to one random commenter and to one random host at the conclusion of the tour. Leave your comment here to enter, then follow the rest of the tour to enter at the other stops for more chances to win.

About Mysti Holiday

Mysti Holiday is the pseudonym of a very busy SAHM who dreams of warm climes and hot bodies.  Most people know she writes, but not what she writes about:  sexy men and the wanton women who love them.

She’s married to a wonderful man who happily sacrifices himself for research, and she spends most of her days dreaming of interesting and unusual situations in which to place her characters.  But most of all, she’s a sucker for a happy ending.

About Sugar Walls

When Emilie is dumped by her boyfriend, best friend Jack Voss offers a shoulder and a place to live–the other side of his duplex. He’s always there, fixing her problems, her car, her sink. Emilie doesn’t know what she’d do without him, or with the feelings she’s having for him. His shoulder doesn’t just offer comfort anymore; his touch is a turn-on. Their shared wall is the only thing keeping them from sharing a bedroom—and fanning the flames might risk breaking something that Jack can’t fix.

An Excerpt From Sugar Walls

Emilie hadn’t lied about the leak in her pipes.  Just  like she hadn’t broken her dishwasher, or the leg off her couch, or the alternator in her car on purpose. But, to be honest, it was almost a relief when those things happened, because they gave her an excuse to see Jack.

She’d called him first thing this morning when running water for her coffee had resulted in puddles beneath the sink. He’d come over the first chance he’d had and now he was on his hands and knees on the linoleum looking at the pipe that oozed moisture, oblivious to the woman behind him who was also soaking wet, albeit for an entirely different reason.

His ass looked good enough to take a big bite out of. Emilie couldn’t help herself; it was right there, sticking out from under her kitchen sink, and she had to clench her hands into tight fists to keep from grabbing it. Still, that didn’t keep her mind from wandering, and when one of his hands reached out for a wrench, she pictured it on her, cupping her breasts, thumbs circling the rosy buds. Instantly her nipples puckered, as tightly clenched as her hands, and her crotch dampened even more.

    Excerpt was good.
That, there is a past and a somewhat solid foundation in the fact that they have a history and mutual friends, they’ll probably have a happy life together, if, they manage not to blow it.

  • Mel Bourn says:

I love Friends to Lovers stories. The story seems stronger sometimes with that previous bond being present. It can also add a little “flavor” to the characters flaws with shared experiences.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

I agree…it can definitely add to the story to have the bond of friendship…it can also add to sexual tension because the characters already have a relationship…and the sexual tension is a new/developing layer…and it’s fun to see how the characters deal with it.

  • Catherine says:

I do like friends-to-lovers stories. There’s something special when a relationship starts with like, builds to friendship, and then progresses to something more. It’s more interesting that something that starts with lust…LOL.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

I wouldn’t knock lust… :) But I know what you mean. Lust alone isn’t really enough. The relationship is often more believable when it progresses from friendship to love rather than enemies falling in love…though I like the tension in those stories.

  • Shannon says:

I think it is a great theme. The only negative I would say is if they jump too fast from friends to lovers. Someone has to be a little hesitant or freaked out about the transition. A little too smooth just doesn’t seem realistic to me. Thanks for the excerpt!

    • Laurie Sanders says:

If the transition from friends to lovers is too smooth–without hurdles then there isn’t much conflict. :) I like stories with a lot of conflict.

One of the things I like about friends to lovers stories is that the characters have a lot to lose right from the beginning because the relationship starts out being important to both of them.

  • JeanMP says:

Enjoy this type of story, the friends to lovers, how comfortable they are around each other, they know all the little quirks, how they realize that no one else can feel that place in their heart and life.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

I agree Jean. It’s partly that they know each other — there is comfort in the friendship…but can sometimes be discomfort in the sexual attraction…and I find that contrast intriguing in these types of stories.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

You’re welcome Mysti. I hope you have a good time here today…hope you get a chance to drop back by and respond to some of the folks leaving comments. :)

  • Mary Preston says:

What intrigues me about friends to lovers stories is the catalyst. Sometimes, it’s a slow realization, but there can also be a happening event that sets off a dormant spark.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

Yes, there can be. There usually has to be something that sets off a dormant spark…even if it takes off slowly. What I mean is there is some moment in time where the nature of the relationship changes…where there is an awareness that wasn’t there before in the same way. Even if it dawns slowly it seems that there needs to be something that sets it off.

  • Gabrielle says:

Best friends to lovers are always a good read. I love that the characters already seem to know each other and what makes each other tick. It is the story or their denial of how deep their feelings really are that make the stories a nice read. I love watching the bond grow and only deepen as the couple realizes the love that they have.

    • Laurie Sanders says:

There is definitely something to be said for the hero and heroine knowing what makes each other tick – and in some ways sharing a backstory. I kind of like the shared backstory. It adds a unique twist when the characters know some of the same people…have experienced some of the same events. In a way it makes the relationship seem more important because it is touched upon by so many other relationships.
