This month I celebrate my three year anniversary. Not my wedding (although that was this month too – 19 years), but of the start of an erotic romance writing career. On July 23, 2009, I signed a contract with Black Velvet Seductions for Intimate Submission, my very first erotic romance. I’ve now published six erotic romances with three difference publishers.
I’ve been a writer all my life (I’m a former newspaper reporter), and I was working toward putting together a collection of mainstream short stories at the time that I began writing Intimate Submission. I’ve always found the dynamic of boss/employee romances hot, so I was playing with a story about a woman who goes to a job interview and is so bowled over by the man who would be her boss, she would do anything to please him – including have sex with him during the interview.
Because I was playing, I tossed in quite a bit of kink, including spanking.
But when I got done, I thought, “This isn’t bad. Maybe I can sell this!”
I did some research and discovered that BVS had put out a call for submission to a “spanked wives anthology.” The description of what Laurie was looking for and the length seemed to match what I had written, so I emailed it off.
After a rewrite, she accepted it, and Intimate Submission was published in October 2009, and a year later in the Spanked! anthology. Spanked! also includes my second erotic romance, Secret Desires.

My favorite anniversary is the day my fiance proposed to me almost three years ago – August 30th – at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. We were off to the side – away from the crowd – and he said that he wanted to be with me forever and that he wanted to marry me. It was so perfect and beautiful especially in that location because he is such a history buff…we have been together 12 years now and I look forward to spending the rest of my life with him.

Wow! I didn’t know that Secret Desires and Intimate Submission were doing so well!
I just found out yesterday and decided to keep the news mostly close to my chest and announce it here since you were here celebrating today. I do not have actual sales figures from Fictionwise because we only get them 45-60 days after the close of the quarter.
Hubby keeps a good eye on the bestseller lists and lets me know when we have something that hits one of the lists.
