It seems I’ve been rushing around a lot lately and I’ve not posted a lot recently other than the normal contests, additions to the Books You Can Win List, and updates to The Million Pages Challenge. So, I thought I’d relax a bit, catch up, share what I’ve been reading, and what I’m excited about here at BVS and elsewhere.

First, my husband is a real sweetheart and gave me my Christmas present early this year. Yes, I DO usually finagle it out of him early. :-) This year he got me the Kindle Fire which I’d been looking at with longing. I’ve had the Kindle Fire a couple of days now and really, really like it. It’s about the same size as my old Kindle but is heavier. Its display is color and  pages turn with a flick of a finger– I like that — a lot. I never really could get used to the page turning with the old Kindle. It’s also not a single purpose device like the Kindle is. I can read books on it, but I can also watch movies, surf the web, watch videos, tweet, do email, play games, etc. I like that it is smaller than the laptop and does a lot of the same things that a laptop does (though it isn’t a replacement for a laptop). I like that I can carry it to the recliner, sit there with it, use Twitter, watch a training video, email or read a book…all without needing to scramble around for a plugin as I’d need to for the laptop.

I’m currently reading Dom’s of Dark Haven 1 by Cherise Sinclair, Sierra Cartwright, and Belinda McBride. I bought the book because Cherise Sinclair is one of my favorite non-BVS authors and I’ll pretty much buy and read anything she writes — though I haven’t purchased her paranormal Hour of the Lion yet.  I’m excited that Cherise has a new release out… To Command and Collar. Yes, it already has a home on my Kindle Fire and within the Kindle app on my Android.

Though I have had a chance to do a little reading I’ve not done a lot because I’ve been busy getting ready for our next release here at BVS. Just in time for the Christmas holidays we’re releasing Cowboys in Charge by Starla Kaye. It’s an anthology which includes seven romantic spanking stories. It’s filled with cowboys and the women who frustrate and love them. These stories are both steamy and poignant…all set at Christmas time. The book is available at All Romance Ebooks now if you would like it early. It will be releasing in all the normal channels as well as some new ones within the next few days.

Releases are funny things — you submit files to the stores like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Sony, etc. but the books are usually not available the moment the files are uploaded. It takes some time for the store to build the page for the book and create the necessary links and so on so the actual release date can lag behind the point at which the files were uploaded.

If you like short stories with heat and poignancy you can check it out at All Romance Ebooks. The first story in the anthology is included as an excerpt so you can read an entire story to get a feel for whether this is your kind of book.

I was going to post my Million Pages Challenge reads here but this post is getting long so I think I’ll save it for another post.

Let’s make this fun…I have a free ebook copy of Cowboys in Charge for the first, eighth, and fifteenth persons to comment on this post. Third, tenth, and thirteenth posts will each get a lace tree ornament. You can post more than one comment and qualify but each comment must be meaningful and add to the discussion in some way.

Since Cowboys in Charge is a collection of stories set at Christmas let’s talk about Christmas. What books and/or other gifts do you hope Santa leaves under your tree this Christmas? What are some of your favorite Christmas (or other winter holiday) traditions?

What a great gift to get! I am looking into a tablet this year but they are expensive! Christmas is always hectic around our house and even more so this year. I am now looking at my sons 18th birthday next week! Where does the time go?

Oh I love Cherise Sinclair and just got the latest book and cannot wait to dig in!

  • Tammy says:

Love this blog and so hope Santa brings me something good to read and even maybe something naughty to wear or play with. Happy Holidays!!!

  • Brenda Woody says:

Hi Laurie, I came across your blog from a Twitter RT. I can’t believe its already December and Christmas in 22 days. I’m hoping Santa leaves me a Nook under the tree. As far as Christmas traditions goes, my kids (4) are all grown up and live on their own. But when they were little, I would let them pick one wrapped present to open on Christmas Eve. We would have hot chocolate and cookies to eat while they opened and showed everyone the present. Of course before going to bed, we left Santa a glass of milk and a few cookies to enjoy. Okay now I getting sentimental……I’m over the empty nest syndrome I swear! LOL
I have heard a lot about Cherise Sinclair’s books. I need to add her books to my TBR. And Cowboys in Charge sounds like a delicious read. Thanks for the chance to win it.

I had something on the stove – back again. I have an iPad at the top of my Christmas wish list, but..

I have a book list for Christmas that is ridiculous.

We put up our Christmas Tree today, one of my favourite traditions. I love putting the Angel on the top. She always looks so serene & beautiful.

  • Tia says:

The thing that I love to do is keep my radio on a local station that turns its playlist into all Christmas tunes starting on Christmas Eve and lasts for about two or three days.
It gets everyone talking and sets a good mood.

  • winnie says:

Wow, what a great early Christmas present, Laurie! I’d like one for Christmas too! lol :P Perhaps you can do a more thorough review on the Kindle Fire someday or just tell us how you’re liking it after you have a chance to use all of its functions? I’ve been very interested in seeing other bloggers review the new Kindle and I am thinking of maybe saving up for one. But I’ll still have to think about it since shipping any Kindle to Canada, with the added costs, make it so much more expensive for those of us not in the States to buy.

Great to hear that BVS has a new release! But no need to consider my for the ebook copy of Cowboys in Charge because it doesn’t really sound like my kinda read. So please pass it along to the next lucky reader/commenter who would like to read it :)

As for what books I would love to receive for Christmas, there are LOTS on my wishlist, but I’ll name a few newer releases that I’m really looking forward to get my hands on:
    - The Bite Before Christmas by Jeaniene Frost & Lynsay Sands
    - The Storm That is Sterling by Lisa Renee Jones
    - Embrace the Highland Warrior by Anita Clenney
    - Immortal Rider by Larissa Ione
    - Head Over Heels by Jill Shalvis
    - It’s All Greek to Me by Katie MacAlister
    :D

    • Gabrielle says:

You have some great books and authors on that list. I love Lynsay Sands and Katie MacAlister. I have not read Larissa Ione but she is on my tbr list.

      • winnie says:

I highly recommend Larissa’s books if you enjoy Paranormal Romance! :D I loved her Demonica series and her latest books are a spin-off series called the Lords of Deliverance series. Definitely try them out! :)
