Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and Christmas is a receding memory. I thought it time to give the blog a bit of an overhaul. This theme is much different than others we’ve had…not so much in the colors and pictures, although it is different in that respect too. It’s different in that the way things are arranged is different as it is designed in 3 columns as opposed to 3.
I really like how it looks…and I like the new arrangement. What I think I like most is that it is much easier to get to the posts for the past day, week, or month, just by clicking on the date on the calendar. If it’s been three days since your last visit you can click on today’s date to read everything posted today. Click on yesterday’s date to read everything posted yesterday, and click on the day before’s date to read everything posted day before yesterday. That alone is much smoother.
In designing the new theme I also took away the tabs at the top of the screen. That content is now available through the links on the top menu on the left column.
The blog is currently set up so that a page is displayed as the opening screen, rather than the latest blog post. I originally did this to keep the Dreaming of Books Hop on the front page, but I kind of like the control that this set-up gives me. There are many times when the last thing I post is not the most important thing I post…so being able to put the most important thing out as a page and have it display on top is nice.
It will give you the feeling that nothing new has happened on the blog, because the opening screen is the same…but that’s not the case. Blog posts will show up in recent posts and also if you click on the calendar date for the date you want to look at.
Let me know what you think of the new theme and the new setup. I like it so far.

I mentioned the redecorating on another spot but then saw this post. I really like the new look and I have to say that I can page through things better than before. I’ve been having computer problems (not all fixed yet) but it seemed that until today, everytime I visited BVS blog, I had slow response and/or freezing up when trying to navigate or even loading the pages. It is so much better today. Don’t know if it is you or my computer is finally behaving herself! She’s just been so b*tchy lately. Maybe she decided to behave because she heard I’m going to replace her soon!
Love the new look. I enjoyed the snow effect in December but it always took a long time to load the page for me. This has nice colors and is easy to navigate as well.
Sorry about the double post. Sometimes When I try to log in it does not seem to show me as logged in to the blog and it some times will not let me post.
Love the new look. i enjoyed the snow effect in December but it always took awhile to load the page for me and this one comes up quickly. Nice colors and it is easy to navigate.
It’s alright–I figured it was a glitch of some sort. You do not really need to be logged in in order to post though. You can just click reply and then type in your name and email address in the form that comes up.
I don’t know what’s wrong with the loading and such of the blog lately. It was acting kind of funky for me too last week. I even called the hosting company and asked them to check it out. They didn’t find anything that should be causing problems.
I noticed the slow load speed too. I liked the snow though.
It’s always kind of fun to get a fresh new look though. I like the image on the top of this blog…it’s from Istock Photo. I’m thinking to have some business cards made using it. I need to mail out some promo materials soon.
I like it. It’s very pretty.
I like it too Jane. It reminds me a little of…I don’t know country colors and maybe a designer address book or something. I like it.
Hi Laurie,
I really love the new look and it’s easier to read! Really like the new color scheme!
Hi Terri,
I like it too. When you say it is easier to read, do you mean that it is easier to read because you like the text better or do you mean that the elements/navigation/menus/etc are easier to navigate? I’m curious because after Valentine’s Day I’ll be making a new theme and I’d like to keep the things that make it easier to read.
Thanks Virginia! I definitely like the new look. I think I am going to stick with three column layouts going forward. It just spreads the links out more…moves everything closer to the top…makes navigation smoother and easier.
Hi, Laurie! The site looks great–very pretty! Navigation is smooth sailin’ : )
