Fool Me Once -- Romantic Suspense -- by Jessica Joy

Though it is obvious from the change in interface that I’ve been busy, some of the changes have been behind the scenes and might not be quite as visible. As some of you may already know, I am working hard on a total rebuild of the entire Black Velvet Seductions website. I originally built the site back in 2004  prior to the release of our first romance novel, Fool Me Once in December of 2005. At that time I didn’t really know what I was doing and I made a lot of mistakes some of which I have corrected over the years with various udates to the website. However, I have not done a complete rebuild of the site since the original site was built in 2005. It’s now time to do so, and I am working on it.

The plan was to rebuild the site and both the reader’s blog and the writer’s blog and move the entire site and both blogs to a new web host. Hhowever that plan was short-circuited because the company that has hosted our site since its inception was purchased by another web-hosting company. The takeover by the new company was not handled as smoothly as one could have hoped, and things seemed to change daily depending upon which tech support person I spoke to. After some consideration and gnashing of teeth I decided to move the old site to the new hosting company. That was done over Thursday and Friday. In fact, I was patting myself on the back, congratulating myself on how smoothly the move had gone, until I went to log onto the blog this morning.

When I logged onto the blog nothing worked!

Some time with tech support later it was discovered that the old naming structure for the blog did not work with the set-up on their server, and so the blog would need to be renamed. I heaved a huge groan at this because I knew that it would essentially be like starting the blog over. While I could import old files into the structure, the old links to the blog still would not work. So…I decided that since I am rebuilding the site I would rebuild the blog and integrate the new blog into the old website until such time as the new site is ready to launch, at which time the new site will launch with links to the new blog.

What it means for you as a reader of the blog is that you will need to subscribe to the new blog as the old blog is gone forever. It has been replaced by the new Black Velvet Seductions’ Reader’s Blog. It means that if you were a subscriber to the old blog your old password won’t work with this new blog. You will have to re-subscribe and get a new password. I know this is frustrating. It was more than a little frustrating to me this morning when I couldn’t sign into my own blog. :-)

I do hope you like the new blog interface. I thought it was pretty for fall.

Hi Laurie,I’m glad you sent me a newsletter to let me know what’s going on.I was wondering why the old blog wasn’t working.I love the new blog!! so glad to hear from ya again!!

    Laurie,
The new blog interface is beautiful. Here in Louisiana, we don’t really see all that orange carpet of leaves on the ground. The color contrast of the burnt orange against the icy white with the bare branches waving forlornly provide a mystical, picturesque scene.

I’m new to blogging so I don’t know what to do.

  • Sounds like a ton of work Laurie but I just wanted to let you know that it was not all done in vain! I love the layout and simplicity in this new blog..I can’t wait to see what lively events you end up hosting and what mischief we can all get up to :P

    Happy Reading!!!

  • Laurie,
I like the new graphics — nice change. Sorry to hear about the problems with the new company. I do know from experience that good tech people are hard to find, usually just when you need them the most! :-)

    Thanks Everyone!

It sounds like the new blog theme is a hit! I’m glad you like it. I like the crispness, the cleanness of it…I also like that everything seems to work smoothly…everything is easy to see.

I wasn’t pleased to have to change the blog url…but I am pleased with the outcome.

I like the look of the new blog a lot…and REALLY like all of the feedback from all of you. Keep it coming!

    sowensmattristan,

You must be a quick learner. You’re doing the blogging exactly right. You just add comments to the posts…just like you did this one. :-)

    Hi Zita,

I am not sure where the picture on the blog was taken. I didn’t take it.

The blog is run on the WordPress platform and one of the cool things about that platform is that you can change the entire look of a blog just by uploading a new theme and activating it. There are thousands of themes for WordPress blogs and the majority of them are free. I found this one while searching and decided it was perfect for the fall season.

I have some neat themes for spring and summer. So far, I haven’t found anything for winter, but there is time to look around before winter gets here. I think this theme will be hard to best…I really like the crisp, clean interface, and the picture is lovely.

    Thanks Annalisa,

I like the new blog too. Makes me…almost happy the old blog suffered its demise. :)
